New Accreditation as an Authorised Waste Manager for Fibreboard Drums

Since July 2026, Joaquín Alberto has been officially accredited as a waste management centre under code E-2143.26. This accreditation allows us to take back kraft fibreboard drums that have not been used to transport hazardous products once they reach the end of their service life.

With this step, we are extending our activity beyond manufacturing: as well as producing eco-friendly, recyclable and customisable kraft fibre drums, we can now also take care of them once they are no longer in use as packaging.

Why we have taken this step

Making recyclable packaging is only part of the cycle. For a drum to be truly sustainable, its materials need to go back into the production cycle once it has reached the end of its use, instead of ending up in landfill or being incinerated.

With our accreditation as a waste manager, we close that loop: the same drum we manufacture can come back to us so that we can separate and recover its components.

What this means for our customers

  • A single point of contact for buying drums and for managing them at the end of their service life.
  • Official guarantee: the drums are handled by an accredited waste management centre (E-2143.26).
  • Complete recycling: we separate the board, metal and plastic so they can be returned to the production cycle, with the aim of achieving Zero Waste.
  • Regulatory compliance: our process complies with Law 7/2022 on waste and contaminated soils and Royal Decree 1055/2022 on packaging and packaging waste, both of which require recycling to take priority over landfill.

The impact of recycling a fibreboard drum

Recycling the materials in a drum saves a considerable amount of resources. Making board from recycled fibre uses 60% less energy and 80% less water than making it from virgin wood, and recycled steel cuts CO₂ emissions by 85% compared with steel produced from iron ore.
