Eco Kraft Drum: Finalist in the 2025 Catalan Ecodesign Award
At Joaquín Alberto S.A., we are pleased to announce that we have been named finalists in the 2025 Premi Catalunya d’Ecodisseny (Catalonia Eco-Design Award) for our Eco Kraft Drum project, developed in collaboration with Oiko Design Office.
This recognition, promoted by the Government of Catalonia and the Catalan Waste Agency, distinguishes products that incorporate eco-design and circular economy criteria throughout their life cycle.
An event promoting sustainable design in Catalonia
The Premi Catalunya d’Ecodisseny 2025 ceremony was held on 16 October at the Palau Robert in Barcelona, bringing together companies, designers and institutions committed to innovation and sustainability.
During the event, the winning and finalist projects were presented, and a travelling exhibition was inaugurated that will tour different Catalan cities throughout 2025.
This exhibition aims to inspire and disseminate real solutions that are transforming the industry towards more circular and responsible models.
Participating in this edition represents another step forward for Joaquín Alberto S.A. in our mission to rethink industrial packaging from a sustainability perspective.
Eco Kraft drum: less impact, more circularity
The Eco Kraft Drum is an industrial container designed for transporting powdered and paste-like products, manufactured mainly from renewable and recycled cellulose.
Its new design is 12% lighter than the previous model, reducing raw material consumption and improving transport efficiency.
The lid incorporates 95% recycled PP and 5% virgin material, along with a galvanised steel spring that ensures a secure and reusable closure.
The life cycle assessment (LCA) of the project shows significant results:
- 53% lower carbon footprint.
- 116% more circularity.
- Removable components that facilitate recovery and recycling.
Furthermore, its modular architecture is ready for the future implementation of a lid and closure reuse system, completing the circularity cycle.
